    Sir Thomas Legg Enquiry

    Date: 13 Oct 2009

Island MP Andrew Turner has issued a statement following the provisional conclusions of an audit into all MPs' claims conducted by Sir Thomas Legg, a former civil servant.

In a letter he received last night, Mr Turner was asked for more documentation.

    Mr Turner said today:

“All my claims were supported by documentary evidence but I have now been asked for some additional paperwork and I will provide this as quickly as possible.

"If I am asked to make any repayment I will, of course, comply with that request. This is the beginning of a process; I will make a further statement when Sir Thomas releases the final results of his enquiry which is expected to be in three weeks time.”

As a result of Sir Thomas's inquiry the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown was asked to repay more than £12,000. Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat Leader, was asked to make a repayment of over £900 after he exceeded a new £1,000 annual cap on gardening costs.

The Conservative Party leader, David Cameron, was not asked for any repayment but to supply further information about his mortgage.
