Island MP, Andrew Turner pledged his ongoing support at a Parliamentary event for the group Consumers for Health Choice in their battle to keep vitamins and minerals available to the British public.
Mr Turner is supporting new ministerial efforts to stop new EU legislation which would remove thousands of vitamins and mineral supplements from British high street stores. Mr Turner has been a staunch supporter of the ongoing campaign to prevent European Regulators banning perfectly safe vitamins and minerals used by British people for generations.
Hitting out at the EU proposals, Mr Turner said :
“This is a silly attempt by the EU to ban perfectly safe products and make sure that vitamin and mineral doses are ‘harmonised’ across Europe. Hundreds of Islanders have raised this issue with me, as well as local health food stores who fear that this unnecessary interference by the EU will devastate their businesses. We need to ensure this legislation is blocked – British adults should be free to choose to take products they know and trust – they don’t need the EU telling them what to do.”
Director of the campaigning group Consumers for Health Choice, Sue Croft said :
“We have been told for years that this proposed legislation is essential to protect consumers, but that is nonsense. EU makes no secret of the fact they want to make sure every Member State has the same opportunity to each sell exactly the same products, at the same doses, across the whole of Europe – a ‘one size fits all’ approach to our health.”
