Andrew Turner the Island’s MP got on an exercise bike to help promote the British Lung Foundations new awareness campaign for healthy lungs.
The British Lung Foundation is urging people to protect their lungs and to keep them healthy by taking regular exercise. Mr Turner helped to demonstrate how exercise like cycling or brisk walking allows the lungs to deliver oxygen-rich blood to the working muscles, helping to keep us fitter and healthier. Respiratory disease now kills one in five people in the UK and the UK’s death rate is the 6th highest in Europe and almost double the European average.
Andrew Turner MP said:
“Our lungs are surprisingly fragile and we need them to be healthy enable us to live mobile and active lives. I have met constituents who suffer from lung disease and have seen first hand how debilitating that can be. I am delighted to support this very worthwhile campaign.
Dame Helena Shovelton, Chief Executive of the British Lung Foundation said:
“We are pleased that Andrew Turner is supporting our campaign. Lung disease is the UK’s second biggest killer so it’s vital that people understand how important it is to take more care of their lungs.”
