Island MP Andrew Turner has welcomed the announcement of a new Lord Lieutenant for the County of the Isle of Wight, and congratulated Major-General Martin White on his appointment.
Mr Turner said,
“I warmly welcome the announcement that Major-General Martin White has been appointed the new Lord Lieutenant of the County, to follow the retirement of Christopher Bland next month.
“General White is one of our most distinguished Islanders, with a splendid record of public service but with his feet firmly on the Island where he was born and brought up. I congratulate him on his appointment.
“Christopher Bland has given over a decade of his life undertaking the role of The Queen’s official representative on the Island and he has carried out those duties with presence but not pomposity, and I have no doubt that Martin White will be a very worthy successor.”
