The Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, has arranged a public meeting at the Riverside Centre, Newport, at 6.30pm on Thursday 6th June. The event has been organised to inform parents and other parties interested in Island Education what Free and Studio Schools are and what will be on offer from these new schools opening on the Island.
Mr Turner commented:
“Many people have expressed an interest in the new Schools that are opening next year and the year after. A Secondary Free School and a Studio School have already received approval and will be opening their doors in September 2014. An Island Primary Free School is also hoping to get approval to open in 2015. People can come along to this event to find out more about these different types of school and what they plan to offer and it will help parents to make important choices about their children’s future. If anybody else is interested in learning about how to open their own new school they would also be very welcome.
“I am delighted that we will have specialists present from the Department for Education and the Studio Schools Trust to explain more about these schools, and there will also be presentations from the people mostly closely involved with the proposed Island Free Schools and Studio School, to explain their different visions. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Island Councillors responsible for education will also be present and are looking forward to speaking to parents and others. All are welcome to attend.”
