Save money on fuel bills – says Island MP

The Monergy project, an innovative scheme to enable Island families to save money through sensible use of fuel, has been launched by the Island’s Footprint Trust.

The Island’s MP, Andrew Turner said:
“ Fuel poverty is an issue affecting many Island households. At a time when we look set to face large increases in fuel bills over the next five years, it is important that everyone is aware of ways to save money on their energy consumption. I would urge Islanders to look at this initiative launched by the Footprint Trust. It could have a huge impact on the stretched household budget of many Island families”.

The Footprint Trust is looking for parents to act as ‘Energetic Champions’. They will receive a short, fun, free training session, during school hours. The champions will then be able to apply what they have learned to save on fuel bills in their own homes and share their knowledge with family and friends to enable them to do the same. The Trust also has details of free and cheap insulation for homes and deals on new heating systems. The project is funded by the Isle of Wight Council.

Ray Harrington-Vail of the Footprint Trust said:
“Those taking part could easily knock between £100 to £400 off their energy bills in the next year.”

The Energetic project also offers free home visits and a helpline, giving guidance on energy and water efficiency. For more information email ray@footprint-trust.co.uk or telephone 01983 822282.
