February is National Heart Month. The Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, is supporting it and encouraging Islanders to join in on National Wear Red day on Friday February 24th to raise funds for the life saving work of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
During National Heart Month the BHF encourages people to think about their own hearts and the hearts of those around them. By wearing red on National Wear Red Day and raising money you can help the BHF save lives through research, patient care and providing vital information on how to care for your heart.
Many people think that heart disease is more common in men than women, but in fact it kills 1 in 3 of both sexes. There are currently 2.7 million people in the UK living with heart disease and funds raised during National Heart month can help provide support for them and hopefully find cures to help them live longer and healthier lives.

“Many of us know somebody with lives with heart problems; they can affect anyone at any age and sadly last year I lost a good friend who suffered an unexpected heart attack. The British Heart Foundation do very good work and locally we have the excellent Heart Care Club which supports Islanders with heart disease.
“Although I’m not well known for my red credentials, this is one red campaign I am very happy to support. National Wear Red Day is a bit of fun that anyone can take part in and it’s all for a very good cause.”
